About Us

Black and Doctoring was established in 2020 by Dr. Kofoworola D.A. Williams, PhD, MPH and Dr. Kristal Lyn Brown, PhD, MSPH to be intentional about providing a space for fellow Black doctorates to share their stories, experiences, conversations, struggles, and wins. It is their hope that with these narratives you not only find solidarity and commonality but that others who wish to pursue a PhD, EdD, MD, DDS, DSW, DBA, etc., feel encouraged to start, keep going, and finish. Below you will find a brief introduction of our co-editors.

Our Co-Editors

Kofoworola D.A. Williams, PhD, MPH

is a postdoctoral research fellow. Her work focuses on mental health disparities with an emphasis on designing, implementing and evaluating interventions on social media. With her work, she aims to address mental health risk among Black boys and men by examining the role of social inequities in promoting mental health and impacting mental health-related help-seeking. She considers herself to be a mental health advocate and aspires to be an inspiration for women of color. More about Williams can be found at:

Kristal Lyn Brown, PhD, MSPH

is a postdoctoral research fellow. Her research interest focuses on obesity and cardiovascular health among Black women. She is particularly interested in racism as a stressor among Black women and its association with health disparities. Dr. Brown is also the visionary for the Brown Girl Narratives Project More about Brown and her research can be found at:
